As I started reading Blood Ninja
by Nick Lake, I noticed that it was cleverly set in the 1500s at the height of
a big war of the Tokugawa period in Japan. It is a great place for the setting
because it was an interesting time period in Japan. When Taro’s father was
killed Taro was rescued by a ninja. He finds himself in the middle of an
ancient conflict between the rulers of Japan. He is forced to hide, so he
trains to become a ninja. Taro soon finds of that the ninjas are also vampires.
Taro finds out that he is the son of Lord Tokugawa, who is an enemy of Lord
Oda. Lord Oda was the one that sent people to kill Taro’s father. The setting
of the book is in the middle of the war in Japan.
Feudal Japan is an intriguing place
and there was so much culture to explore that can be used. The setting had the
cherry blossoms and mountains that made the book interesting and cool. I think
it is significant because Taro is training to avenge his father. He is training
in Japan with Shusaku. He slowly becomes a vampire ninja samurai. The setting
brings Japanese myths to life because it combines them with vampires. In Japan
the vampire ninjas try to help Taro avenge his father and kill Lord Oda. I think
that it would be hard for Taro and the ninjas to take down Lord Oda.
Japan is a significant setting
because it shows the way of fantasy people in Japan. It was a place where there
were ninjas that were used to fight for rulers. Lord Tokugawa used Taro as a
ninja to fight Lord Oda because he ready to beat him. Taro worked hard to be
able to defeat Lord Oda because he wanted to help his mom and save her from
Lord Oda. She was taken hostage when Taro was targeted by Lord Oda. I think
that blood ninjas would be able to kill Lord Oda because they were well trained
and capable to do many things.
I think that the setting is an
important part of the book Blood Ninja
because it contributes a lot to the theme. It also added a beautiful backdrop
to the book. The setting was intriguing because it was taken place in the 16th
century. There was a lot of culture in the setting of feudal Japan.
(Japan...of course, Jackie)
ReplyDeleteNice post, disregarding the comment above, I find it interesting for you to write about the setting, because I always have trouble elaborating a topic on it. Although I don't particularly have any interest in reading about bloody ninjas, I can tell that you have enjoyed the book very well. Here's a question for you that you can think about; how might the story differ if the setting took place in the modern time period?
