A Wrinkle in Time: Archetypes

          In the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle Meg and Charles Wallace Murry, and Calvin O'Keefe go on a quest to find Meg and Charles Wallace’s father. They wrinkle, meaning travel to different planets, with three angelic beings: Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Whatsit. My rereading group is trying to figure out all the archetypes. Here are some below.

          The hero of A Wrinkle in Time is Meg Murry. Meg is trying to find her long lost father in a planet called Camazotz. This planet is full of very weird people because the people act like robots and are very orderly. Meg really wants to save her father and bring him home. She goes on quest with Charles Wallace and Calvin to search for him, but had many obstacles throughout the way. Meg loves her father and really wants to see him again, and wants Charles Wallace to see him.

          The mentors of A Wrinkle in Time are the Mrs. Ws: Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit. Mrs. Whatsit is the youngest and least experienced; she sacrificed herself to the Dark Thing when she was a star. Mrs. Who has big circular glasses. She only speaks in quotes of famous quotes because she has a hard time making her own sentences. For example, she quotes in French, Latin, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese and Greek. She also quotes William Shakespeare and the Bible many times. Mrs. Which is the oldest and wisest woman of the 3 women. She has a difficult time to appear so she is mostly shimmering light. Her words are stretched out, like doubling or tripling consonants and vowels in her words. She is the one that gives Meg and the rest of them clues on how to get to their father.
