~~~The Final Blog Post~~~

During this year of blogging I learned that books can make you think a lot about things in real life. Blogging showed me that I have a lot of things to say about my books. I feel that blogging has changed me as a reader because I am looking for things in the book to write about at the end of the week. I have developed skills to elaborate on topics that I would not have been able to at the beginning of the year. I benefited from this experience of writing a blog by learning how to elaborate on small topics and continue to write with no limit.

Writing online is different from writing in a notebook because when you tell me to write one page in a notebook I just write one page and only one page. On the blog there is no limit to how much to write, sometimes you just continue and somehow there is a long post right there. Also when writing online people can see what you are writing and when you are writing in a notebook most of the time people would not be able to see what you are writing. You do not really express yourself while writing in a notebook. Writing online can be liberating because you can write anything or express your thoughts in any way, but it can also be limiting by having to write a certain way. It can limit what you can write about too.

I think that teenagers do abuse the freedom that the internet grants you. It is like the internet is a place where people should use it carefully and not too much. Teenagers everywhere are always using the internet to do things that they would regret. Abusing the freedom that it gives you is a horrible thing because it does not do any good for the person abusing it.

I cannot imagine myself keeping up with this blog or creating another because it would take too much time and effort with all the work I would have in high school. I blogged because it was part of my grade. I think that blogs are really hard things to keep up with and sometimes annoying when you just want to relax and not do anything.

Overall, I cannot believe that this is my final blog post out of 31(including this one) of the year. This blog helped me express my ideas and showed me that I can create a long response from a tiny topic. I think that it was great to have a blog this year. 

Blog Post #30: The Au Pairs: Crazy Hot

I have just started the last book in the Au Pairs series, The Au Pairs: Crazy Hot, and I started to see that the three girls have come back for another summer in the Hamptons. Mara was suppose to go to travel throughout Europe to write a tourism book with her new boyfriend David, but she forgot to renew her passport and had to stay in United States. After the company found out that this happened they fired her. You would think that David would quit his job and stay with Mara, but he cared more about his job than his girl. Jacqui was going to work a third year of au pairing for the Perrys, but they didn’t tell her that they were moving to London. Jacqui needed the job to pay for NYU tuition. Eliza has just opened a new store to sell her products in the Hamptons and is living with her dad and her step-mother. I started to wonder: do people plan out what they are going to do or just go with the flow.

Mara used to know exactly what she was going to do, but in the beginning of this book she already did not plan something correctly. One mistake caused her to lose her job, but something good came along. Eliza’s step-mother need au pairs to take care of her five kids and Eliza knew 2 perfect people for the job.  I think that people cannot really plan out every single second of their life, they have to have some sort of surprise, anything can happen. Mara did not know that she was going to get fired and that she would get another great paying job right away. Most people just go with the flow of things. Since Mara had such a great opportunity to go to Europe with her boyfriend, she thought that her summer was going to be perfect. Why would a person take a step down when they are already so far ahead? Mara took a step down because she already wrote for big name magazines and newspapers, and if she took the au pair job she would be going back to where she started.

Jacqui found out that the Perrys are moving to London and thought that she would not have enough money for her tuition if she doesn’t have such a high paying job, but she was wrong. The job Eliza was offering her paid much better and she had to do less work than if she was au pairing for the Perry kids. If Eliza did not give Jacqui this opportunity, Jacqui would have needed to go back to Brazil because she had no job. Jacqui did go with the flow and found that the flow was good. Though Jacqui did plan on working for the Perrys another year.  Most people plan things, but those things might go wrong and something new might just come up. That is life, things happen that you would not expect or plan to happen. Jacqui has a pretty good life to have gotten all these chances.

Eliza definitely changed since the first book. In this book Eliza opens up her store to sell her line of clothing in the Hamptons. Opening the store was planned out, but living with her dad and step-mother was not. This was just one of the things Eliza went with the flow with. Eliza soon found out that her step-mother was awesome and had great kids that are not always jumping around and creating problems. Eliza definitely went with the flow when Jeremy purposed to her with a huge ring. She did not know that Jeremy would purpose to her so quickly and thought of the future of them being together. I think that a lot of people do things randomly and do not really plan much of their life out.

In conclusion, this book showed that people do not really plan everything in their life. They can plan some of their life, but even those plans can be changed in a split second. People cannot do everything exactly liked planned, things can come up when you least expect it. Things that are planned can go wrong, but something better might just come up from nowhere and it might just be the greatest thing that happened to you. People should always go with the flow of things if it is not needed to plan things. Eliza, Mara, and Jacqui did not plan to do these things in the summer, but they ended up doing it because they just went with the flow even though their plans went wrong.

Blog Post #29: The Au Pairs: Sun-Kissed

I have just started the book, The Au Pairs: Sun-Kissed by Melissa de la Cruz which is the continuation of The Au Pairs series. Right now in the book Jacqui is the last au pair left working for the Perrys. Jacqui is now working with a new Korean au pair, Shannon that helps make their jobs easier. Now the au pairs do not need to even care for the Perry kids. At first Eliza got an internship working for a famous fashion designer. Though this was not all fun and games, she had to work on hours on end and work really hard. Her boss noticed her after she touched up a model’s outfit, then many others. Though she made one mistake and poof, she was gone, fired. Mara has a new job writing a column about the night life of celebrities in the Hamptons. Mara has all the VIPs to the top parties and is living with Ryan on his parents’ yacht. This book is making me wonder why people change so much. It made me think what the meaning of change is. Also it made me wonder how people actually change.

In the last book, Jacqui swore off boys, but in this book she wants to hook-up with some guys. She also wanted to go to NYU, but she could not get in because she did not have the required credits. Jacqui now has to take another year of high school, but Anna Perry and Kevin Perry are getting a divorce, so they would not be paying for another year of high school for Jacqui. She is feeling down because she really wants to go to NYU somehow, but she may not be able to. Jacqui has changed from party girl to calm and hard-working girl. She has changed many times throughout this series and I think that she might change in the next book. The meaning of change is to alter something or make something different. Jacqui makes me wonder, what a good change in a person is. I think that a good change can be like Jacqui’s change from being a party person to a hard-working person.

 Eliza needed a job for the summer, but since she got fired she could not go shopping because her parents took away her “plastic”, or credit cards. In the first book Eliza was a girl that thought she was all that, but in the second book she learned that working for something is a really hard thing to do. In this book she started out as a hard-working intern and now she turned into a girl that is looking for a job for the summer. I think that people change in many different ways. People can change from other people’s traits rubbing onto you. Or people can change from the way they behave or the activities they do. I think that Eliza’s change is from the activities she did and also a little bit from her friends.  Eliza did find a new job, but it did not pay as well as her internship. She had to take the job because she just had to have money to shop. This did not change in Eliza.

All in all, I think that people can change in many different ways and how they change are because of many different reasons. People can change all of a sudden, or they can change at a slow pace. Jacqui and Eliza changed pretty quickly because of having new thoughts on what they would do in life. Mara also changed, but not as much as Jacqui and Eliza. Mara was already a hard-working girl and she still is, she is just with a really nice guy now. Some things just do not change in some people.

Blog Post #28: The Au Pairs: Skinny-Dipping

In the book, The Au Pairs: Skinny-Dipping by Melissa de la Cruz, 3 best friends have problems being with each other. This book is the second book of The Au Pairs, but in this book Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui are kind of moving apart from each other. They are becoming more and more distant because things are changing. Mara has gotten a new boyfriend that causes her to be very popular and makes her act differently from the Mara Eliza and Jacqui knows. Eliza has a new job at Seventh Circle and is seeing Mara’s ex-boyfriend, Ryan. Her job causes her to have less time hang out with Mara and Jacqui. Jacqui is trying to get the new French au pair, Philippe to notice her. Also she is studying for the SATs. This is causing her to forget about Mara and Eliza.

According to the book, Mara is starting to become a celebrity’s girlfriend that has a lot of publicity. Mara gets free stuff from big designers and a hot new car. At first Mara just went out with Garnett to get her ex-boyfriend jealous, but then later on she felt that Garnett was a really great guy to be with and she does not need Ryan. Mara goes from goody-two-shoes to IT-girl. What makes a person abandon their friends for a new life? I think that Mara is abandoning her friends for a new life because she feels the pull of the popular life. She is being attracted to glamorous life of getting free stuff and being noticed. Everyone is talking about her because she is with a rich, hot, celebrity boy. Mara starts to fade out Jacqui and Eliza by just thinking of herself.

Eliza is being occupied by her new job, but has enough time to see Ryan and not Mara and Jacqui. Eliza was trying to avoid Mara because she was seeing Ryan without her knowing. Eliza felt that her boyfriend was starting to become distant from her and she needed another guy to be her rock. Why would a person go out with her best friend’s ex-boyfriend when she knew that her friend still liked him? I think that Eliza went out with Ryan because she thought that Mara was over Ryan because she was with Garnett. Eliza went out with Ryan all the time, but never had the time to talk to Mara or Jacqui.

Also, Jacqui falls in love with the new au pair, a hot, French boy, though Philippe always was gone doing something. Jacqui barely got to see him and when she did he would always run off somewhere. Why would a girl chase a guy that she barely sees? I think that Jacqui chased Philippe because of the way he looked, but she did not really know him that well. Jacqui soon gets distant with Mara and Eliza because she is studying for the SATs to get into NYU. She is forgetting about hanging out with her best friends. Jacqui used to be a party girl, but now she has transformed into a girl that has a goal to get into NYU and get Philippe to notice her.

In conclusion, the 3 best friends are becoming distant from each other for different reasons. Mara has a new boyfriend that is taking up a lot of her time. Eliza has a new job that is very troublesome and hangs out with Ryan all the time. Jacqui is chasing the new au pair and studying for the SATs. Each of these girls is turning into different people from the first time they met. Their personalities are shifting around.

Blog Post #27: Summer Boys

As I come to an end of Summer Boys by Hailey Abbott, I noticed that romance cannot always be the way you want it to be. Sometimes you want a person to be with forever and sometimes you just want a fling. People would have different thoughts on what romance is, like one person might think it is just getting together with someone and another might think it is being with a person that they really like. This makes me think that Jamie, Ella, and Beth are really different people that have a different point of view on romance.

According to the story, Jamie wants a guy to be with for a really long time instead of just having a fling like Ella. Beth though wants to have a relationship, but not with a guy she does not know. Ella just wants to go out with a guy her sister is dating as a fling. What exactly is romance? There are all kinds of romance, but which kind is romance. I think that each personality has a different thought about romance.  Romance can be a hard thing to figure out for different people because each person would have a different point of view of things.

Jamie wants be with a guy forever and wants a one true love. Beth wants to be with a guy she already knows, but never knew she actually liked him and Ella wants to be with a guy that is appealing to her. I noticed that Jamie and Beth wanted a real solid relationship with a guy, but Ella just wanted the guy because she liked him. Does a person perspective on life impact their perspective of romance? I think that maybe if a person has a different perspective of their life then their perspective of romance can change. Toward the end of the book Ella’s perspective of life changed and also she started to think that she should find a guy to just be with.

In conclusion, one’s perspective of life can change a person’s perspective of romance. I wonder if similar people would have the same point of view of romance as each other. I think that every person has a different personality and thinks differently than others. 

Blog Post #26: Summer Boys

Right now I am reading the book Summer Boys by Hailey Abbott, it is about 3 cousins that have love troubles and want to find a guy for the summer.  Jamie Tuttle and her 2 cousins are back in Pebble Beach for another summer. Jamie reunites with her last summer boyfriend, Ethan, but things change quick when he tells her that he just wants to be friends. Ella is a girl that bounces around guys, but this summer she wants to find a person to settle down with. She falls in love with a singer at a concert named Peter, but her sister gets to him first.  Beth wants to find a boyfriend that does not just like her looks. Though, soon she finds out that she is in love with her best friend, George. Throughout the book she hides her feelings from George because he found a summer girl. The theme of this book is that you cannot rely on something or someone to be the same forever. Also another theme is that if you made a choice and regretted it, do not make it into a big emotional pain. You should live from your mistakes and move on with your life.

The theme of this book is that people cannot rely on things being like the way they were before because things or people can change. When Jamie came back to Pebble Beach she was so excited to see Ethan, but he had changed since the last time she had seen him. I think that nothing can stay the same forever, especially people. Things can change in a split second, but that is life and you should just get over it. No one can stay the same person forever. Ethan changed in one summer, but Jamie still thought that he was in love with her. Jamie really thought that Ethan would be her one and only love, but that turned out to be wrong.

Based on the story I can tell that the theme connects to real life because in real life there are a lot of breakups, hook ups, and fights. Ella broke up and hooked up many times, but never found the right guy. Ella made many wrong choices, but she never regretted them and just moved on. Though she did regret trying to get her sister’s boyfriend to notice her and go out with her. In real life people would try to do things that they would later regret, but they never move on. They should just keep on living their life and forget about their mistakes. Ella really wanted to settle down with a guy, but she soon hurts her sister by doing so.

Sometimes people can keep on staying out of the way, but really want to show what they really feel. Beth made a choice that she regretted and it was that she set George up with a hot summer girl. It would have been better if Beth figured out that she was in love with George before that. Beth started to feel jealous of Cara because she wanted to be in her spot hanging out with George. I think that Beth could have stopped this emotional pain if she figured out her love quicker instead of waiting for Cara to show her that she loved him. Even though Beth made a big mistake she still made it through and continued to live her life.

In conclusion, there were 2 themes in this book that played big roles. I think that you cannot rely on someone or something to be the same as they were before because things can change in a second. Also, if you made a choice that was regretful you should just move on with your life. You should not make a mistake take over your life so you cannot live it freely anymore. It can’t make your life into a huge pain.

Blog Post #25: The Au Pairs

Currently I am reading the book The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz. It is about 3 girls that are working in the Hamptons for the Perry family. In the beginning the 3 girls thought that this job would be a piece of cake. They thought that taking care of 4 kids was easy, but they were wrong. Their work was tedious because they must treat the kids with great care. While reading the book I noticed that each girl had very different personalities. Mara is more a of a shy and goodie two shoes, Eliza is more of a spoiled girl that likes to party all the time, and Jacqui is a girl that wants to have someone love her all the time.

Mara is a girl that is shy most of the time, but sometimes she gets out of her comfort zone and has fun. I think that she is a feisty girl when she wants to be. Even though Mara has a boyfriend in Boston, I think she has a tiny crush on Ryan Perry. I never would have thought Mara would like someone else instead of her one and only boyfriend. Mara always took care of the kids while Eliza and Jacqui were out doing something, which was most of the time. Mara is really helpful because she usually takes care of the 4 children.

Throughout the book Eliza shows that she is a party girl and always wants to go somewhere. Though Eliza also shows that she can help out, but most of the time she does not because she does not want her former friends think she has dropped down so far that she must work. Eliza was rich, but then her dad was part of Wall Street when it crashed and they lost a lot of their money. Her family formerly lived in New York and then they had to move to Boston because it was cheaper. Eliza lied to her friends because she did not want them to know that her family was broke. Eliza is a really great person, but she does not want her friends to know the truth.

Jacqui has a personality of a girl that is truly in love, but soon she finds out that her one true love has a girlfriend. Jacqui also likes to party like Eliza, but she has a hard time without having a guy by her side. She took the job at the Hamptons because she wanted to find the guy she loved, but after that guy left she thought that there was no point of staying. I think that Jacqui should really move on from the guy that lied to her while she was falling head over toes for him. Jacqui usually has a guy by her side all the time because of her looks.

In this book, the characters have very different personalities. Each girl shows a different side of them throughout the book. I think that these girls can all be different from their personalities from the beginning of the book. I noticed that their personalities change very slowly, but their personalities do not change a lot. Each girl makes me think that everyone in the world is unique from others, twins are very similar, but most of the time they have different personalities.

Blog Post #24: Reality Check Archetypes

I have just started the book Reality Check by Jen Calonita and noticed that the cover really relates to the book. The cover is 4 dolls, which I think are the 4 characters in the book. The dolls really take in the personalities of Charlie, Keiran, Brooke, and Hallie. These girls have just signed up to be on a reality show that shows their lives. This caused some problems because it shows their true life not a pre-scripted life. When they spoke the truth they hurt others and this was going to be on public television. While I was reading the book I noticed some archetypes popping up.

The hero of the book is Charlie because she is not perfect, though she shows courage and self sacrifice. Charlie sacrificed her real life to become someone who she is not. The reality show made her become another person and changed her friends too. Charlie showed courage when she stood up to Brooke. Brooke was starting to separate from her friends and hanging out with Marleyna all the time. It took Charlie a lot of courage to confront Brooke for being too caught up with Marleyna and not being with her real friends. The mentor of the book is Addison because she guides Charlie. Addison helped Charlie when she needed help and had experienced what Charlie had. Addison was the mentor because when Charlie was confused Addison helped her understand what was happening. I think that Addison was a great mentor because she really knew what to say to Charlie.

The shadow of the book is Brooke because she created tension in the book by being lured toward a person that just wants to have fame. She continues to ignore her real friends and keep hanging around Marleyna because Marleyna is acting like she really cares for Brooke. Though Marleyna does not really care for Brooke and is just taking advantage of her. I think Brooke should not have become friends with Marleyna because it just makes everyone else depressed. The shapeshifter of the book is Zac because he could not make up his mind with Charlie. At first he really liked her and asked her out, but then when he found out that Charlie was in a reality show he started to change his mind. After he was on camera he felt that he should breakup with Charlie. Soon after that he changed his mind again and wanted to be with Charlie again, but it was too late. I do not think that breaking up with Charlie was a good idea because now that Charlie was a star she would be able to get someone quickly.

Overall, there were very interesting character patterns in this book. It was interesting because I would have never guessed that Brooke would be the shadow of the book in the beginning. Some of the archetypes surprised me when I started to realize that the characters were who they were. Some of the archetypes were really obvious like the hero and the mentor. The others I had to fish out by reading slowly and carefully. I think that some of these archetypes might change as I continue reading this book.

Blog Post #23: The Gift Protagonist

As I continued to the book The Gift by James Patterson, I noticed that there are two protagonists in this book, Wisty and Whit. Their goal is to find their parents and try to defeat The One Who Is The One. The One Who Is The One has captured their parents and they do not know where they are. Throughout their journey they came across many obstacles. These two are trying to achieve something that they cannot do unless they keep trying and looking.

Wisty is a protagonist in this book because she really wants to find her parents and save people from The One Who Is The One. She is always trying to do something, but most of the time what she does gets Whit and her into more trouble. Even though she has magic, she cannot control it most of the time, but she is getting better and better to soon be a perfect witch. Wisty never can actually defeat The One Who Is The One because The One Who Is The One is always one step ahead of her. It is really hard for her to defeat him because he has more power, but she always gets away.

Whit is also a protagonist in this book because he also really wants to find his parents. He also wants to find his girlfriend that is now a Lost One that died because The One Who Is The One murdered her. Whit wants to protect everyone, especially his sister, and fight the New Order, so that everyone can be safe. Whit does not really have a power yet, though as the book progresses his power is beginning to show. I think that Whit is very protective of his sister because he does not want her to get hurt. Before they found out they had some sort of power Whit did not even care for Wisty. Whit’s goal is to help everyone be safe and find his parents and girlfriend.

In conclusion in the book The Gift by James Patterson, the protagonists are Wisty and Whit. I think that they are both really trying to help save the world and find where their parents are. They want to succeed and rescue all the people that were thrown in jail for no apparent reason.

Blog Post #22: The Gift Theme

I have started the book The Gift by James Patterson. This is the second book of the Witch and Wizard series. While reading this book I think that the author is trying to tell me that nothing is perfect no matter how much power you have and how much control you have over people. Not everything is going to work out as you planned because things can just in a second. Even if you have all the power in the world, something can go wrong like what happened in the book.

In the book Wisty and Whit Allgood helped stop The One Who Is The One arresting innocent children. The One Who Is The One almost had arrested many kids because he thought that they were too chaotic for the “New World”. Even though The One Who Is The One had a lot of power, he was still outsmarted by two teenagers. He was on top and was acting like nothing can bring him down, but something went wrong. I think that The One Who Is The One was a bad person that just wanted to torture people.

The One Who Is The One was so close to capturing Wisty and Whit, but they kept getting away from him. He had so many guards that helped him, but whenever he got even close to capturing Wisty and Whit, they get away. Even though he had so many people helping him, he could not get them. When he did get them they had always escaped. Where I am at now in the book, he has not succeeded in capturing Wisty and Whit once. I think that nothing can be exactly as you planned it to be because there can always be something or someone to stop your plan.

In conclusion in the book The Gift, I think that James Patterson was trying to tell me that nothing can be perfect. The One Who Is The One always had something planned, but every time it was foiled by someone or something that happened. In real life it is the same because if you have something perfectly planned out, most of the time it would be changed in some way to make it imperfect. 

Blog Post #21: Witch and Wizard Setting

The book Witch and Wizard by James Patterson is taking place in a world where the United States is taken over by a new government, the New Order as they call themselves. This government has a huge toleration of literature, music, and magic. Under the new government, tons of kids are arrested and thrown into prison without a fair trial. Two of the kids were Whit and Whisty Execution is what the people get if they are witches or wizards. The setting is pretty modern accept for the magic and government.

The setting of this book is symbolic because it shows how the government changed after just a couple of elections. It showed how something can change in such little time without any way to stop it. Having a country being taken over by a whole new government and having all the laws change shows how bad something can be if people do not carefully do things. Whit and Whisty were taken away by the government and were forced to starve. I think that the setting plays a big role in this book because of the time of need between all of the children that had unfair laws against them.

Maybe one day the government might be taken over by a new one that is out to destroy all children that cause trouble. If the United States was taken over by a new government would the United States be ready? I was thinking about this when I thought about the setting of this book. What if we were not ready for the new government and everything will go terribly wrong? The United States would come crashing down. The setting of this book is very important because if the United States’ government was not taken over there would be no story.

In conclusion the setting of the book Witch and Wizard is really important because it can happen to our government. It is the building mount of the book, if this was not the setting nothing would happen to Whit or Whisty and they would have never knew they had special powers. The setting created unfair laws for everyone and it made people lose a lot.

Blog Post #20: Clockwork Prince Antagonist

As I continued to read Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, I noticed that the antagonist is slowly becoming clear. The antagonist of this book is Axel Mortmain because he built an army of clockwork creatures, he plans to destroy Shadowhunters, he wants to get Tessa, and he also thinks that a Shadowhunter’s parent was the cause of the death of his own parents. Mortmain tries to kidnap Tessa because he thinks that he created her and that she is like his property. Tessa is not afraid of Mortmain because she has a bunch of people around her to protect her. I think that Mortmain will not succeed upon doing any of his goals.

Axel Mortmain is the antagonist of this book because he has tried to beat the Shadowhunters with a clockwork army. The army is made of mechanical creatures that Mortmain made himself. He also wants to use the army of mechanical creature to take over the rest of the world after he destroys all the Shadowhunters. He opposes the Shadowhunters a lot because he thinks that they have caused everything that has gone wrong in his life. I would not do what Mortmain did just because I assume someone did something without having any proof. That would be a mistake because if you think someone did something they had not, that would be wrongly accusing someone.

Another reason Mortmain is the antagonist of this book is because he wants to get hold of Tessa. Soon in the book Mortmain’s motivations and intentions are revealed. Mortmain wanted to get Tessa because she was a shape shifter. Mortmain wanted her to change into other people to read their minds. Mortmain tried many attempts to lure Tessa to him, but all of them have failed. I think that Mortmain will never get Tessa because she knows not to trust some things.

In conclusion Axel Mortmain is the antagonist of Clockwork Prince because he opposes all the protagonist in this book. The protagonists are the Shadowhunters and Tessa. I think that Mortmain does not have a true reason to oppose them. 

Blog Post #19: Clockwork Prince What points do you find yourself resisting the text?

While reading the book Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare I noticed that I resisted the text when there were some difficult situations. I found that I often resist the story when there is something bad happening or something sad was happening. I resisted the story when Tessa was getting cornered by an auto man. It was trying to kill her and it was sad. She was scared of the robot and trying to protect herself. I did not want to know what was going to happen next, but she was saved.

In the book I resisted the book when Jem was playing his violin violently. He was playing the violin while he was being mad. He used to play his violin beautifully, but since he was mad at his best friend, he was taking out his rage on the violin. Also Jem thought that if he was going to die then his violin should just die before he dies. Tessa heard him playing and tried to stop him because she loved hearing him play the violin nicely and she knew that he loved his violin. Tessa did not want Jem to destroy his most precious item just because he is dying. I did not want Jem to kill his violin just because he was going to die. I think that I resisted this part of the book because I did not want Jem to destroy his violin that was really important to him.

Another time I resisted the book was when Will went somewhere without telling anyone where he was going to go. He disappeared for a couple of days and Jem and Tessa began to become worried about him while everyone else was calm. Will wanted to run away to get away from his troubles at the Institute. I think that I resisted this because I did not want to see Will get hurt. I was scared that Will might have gone somewhere where he could hurt himself or just hurt himself on purpose. I was resisting the text because there might have been something going wrong with Will.

In conclusion I resisted the text many times in the book, Clockwork Prince. I resisted it because I was worried or something bad was happening. I think I resisted the book because it was sad or I was worried about something happening in the book.

~SPOILER ALERT~Blog Post #18: Fallen in Love Theme

I have just come to an end of my book, Fallen in Love by Lauren Kate. It is about four Valentine’s Day love stories. They are unexpected, unrequited, forbidden, and eternal. Each couple has their own story, some of them end badly and some do not end at all. These four love stories intersect on the night of Valentine’s Day in medieval England. Four couples have different kinds of love in this book. I think one theme of this book is love because it is a strong emotions being shown throughout the book.

The book starts off with the story of Miles and Shelby. They found love where they least expected it, within themselves. At first they are looking for Luce, but then they soon started to get to know each other. Miles and Shelby were good friends, but they did not know that they would fall in love. Shelby always thought that Miles was just a guy that always was by himself and have no friends, but then she found out he was tough and helped others. Miles thought that Luce was the love of his life, but then she broke his heart by going to another guy. He thought that Shelby was just a girl that never wanted any commitment, but soon he found out that it was the opposite. They slowly start to fall in love on Valentine’s Day. This love is unexpected from Shelby and Miles.

In the next love story there is heartache. Roland learns a painful lesson of losing and finding love. In medieval times he had a love of his life that he lost because she did not love him back. He never forgot about how she broke his heart. Roland visited Rosaline and found out that she was with another man with one child on the way and one already born. Rosaline’s husband had to leave for battle, but Roland stopped him because he did not want Rosaline’s husband to be the same as him. The love here is unrequited love because Roland did not want Rosaline to be sad.

The forbidden love story was the story of Arriane. She pays the price of a love that is so fierce it burns. She love Tess, but Tess is on the other team. Tess is on the team of the devil and Arriane is on the team of the angels. They want to be together, but cannot because if they are, they would never be able to enjoy themselves. Someone will always be watching over them because it is forbidden of them to be together. It is really rare to even have a whole day together. The love in this story has a horrible ending. Tess commits suicide because she cannot live without Arriane. This is what forbidden love can do to a person.

In the last Valentine’s Day story, there is everlasting love. The love is between Luce and Daniel. They spend a night together like no other they have spent together. Their love lasts for eternity because of Luce’s curse that makes her die when she kisses Daniel and then makes her into another living person. In every life, she finds Daniel and has the same name. Daniel and Luce have a love that can never die. It is the best love, but every time Luce dies Daniel is heartbroken because he wants to break the curse. I think that the love in this story is the worst love because it can be a bad thing if the person you love dies because of you.

In conclusion, love is the theme of Fallen in Love by Lauren Kate. Love can be really complicated or it can be easy. Love can be unexpected like Miles and Shelby. Or it can be painful and unrequited like Roland’s story. Love can also be forbidden to some people because of unexplainable reasons. Last of all love can be eternal, but that cannot always be a good thing.

Blog Post #17: Chain Reaction Whose perspective is missing?

As I come to the end of Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles, I noticed that many perspectives are missing from this book. Even though that there are many missing perspectives, the most important one was Luis’ mother because she plays a big role in this book. I wonder what she thought when Luis got hurt and started falling in love with a girl that was different from him. From where I see it, Luis’ mother shows a lot of care, but does she really care about things.

I think the author excluded Luis’ mom because she wanted to add some mystery to the book or some second-guessing. If the book was from Luis’ mom perspective there would not be as much tension. We would have not known how Luis got hurt or how he started to fall in love with a different girl. There would also be a difference of how the story is being seen from. If Luis’ mom was a perspective that was seen in the book we would know what she was thinking about and why.

With Luis’ mom perspective missing, Luis and Nikki’s perspectives come out more. If Luis’ mom’s perspective was there, Nikki and Luis’ perspectives would be shown less and the whole story can be different. All the archetypes would be changed into different people. If Luis and Nikki’s perspectives were the ones missing there would be a gap in the book. I think it would be less exciting without the perspectives of Luis and Nikki. Though the book can be exciting if all the perspectives to be shown.

While reading Chain Reaction I learned that changing one perspective can change a whole book. The theme of the book might even change if the perspective seen is changed. I think that if Luis and Nikki’s perspectives were missing the story might change all together. Also if Luis’ mom perspective was seen the book might have been altered into a different story.

Blog Post #16: Chain Reaction Conflict

I just started reading the book Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles. It starts off by Luis free solo rock climbing. It is when you do not use any safety gear while rock climbing. The book is narrated by two teens that soon fall in love. Luis and Nikki switch narrating after each chapter and they feel differently for each other in the beginning.  While reading Chain Reaction I came across the conflict of unwanted love.

Unwanted love is one of the big conflicts in this book because Luis loved Nikki since the first time he saw her, but Nikki is not the same to Luis. When Nikki met Luis she thought he was a player that only had one night stands. It was unrequited love or a one-sided love. Luis felt something for Nikki, but Nikki did not feel a thing for Luis. I think that if Nikki really learned about Luis she would have liked him in the beginning.

Another example that unwanted love is a big conflict in this book is that when Luis was dancing with Nikki, Nikki kneed him in a spot where it hurts. At that time Nikki still had not fallen for Luis obviously. Nikki did not want to be involved with a guy that was like her ex-boyfriend, but soon enough she finds out that Luis is not the kind of guy that is like her ex-boyfriend. At first Nikki did not want Luis’ love because of many reasons, but soon after they bonded she found out that Luis was a great guy.  The unwanted love slowly changes into a love that is shared.

In conclusion, love can be a though thing if the person you love doesn’t love you back. If the person does not love you right away you should keep trying. Luis kept trying to get Nikki to like him and he soon succeeded with it. Even though it was hard for him to do so, he still hung in there and fought for the love he wanted.

Blog Post #15: Crossed Archetypal Journey

While reading the book Crossed by Ally Condie, I noticed that Cassia is on a quest to find her love Ky. Cassia finds out that Ky had escaped the camp he stayed at and followed him, though she was two days late. She goes with her new found friend Indie because Indie also wants to escape the camp. They go on a journey through the canyons of the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky. As Ky runs he leaves little clues for Cassia. He left the clues because he thought maybe one day Cassia would find him.

Cassia slowly continues on her quest of finding Ky with Indie. Indie helped Cassia have company. She helped by many different ways. Cassia could not have gone on the quest without Indie because she was like guidance to her. It would have been very hard to get through the Carving if Indie was not there to show Cassia survival skills. Cassia really wants to see her love Ky and if Indie was not there to encourage Cassia to keep going she would have never continued to look for Ky. I think that if Cassia keeps on going on her journey she will find Ky sooner or later.

Soon Cassia finds out that the Society is in the Carving because she saw that many people were killed. Cassia noticed that the rocks that are in the canyon are so perfect. If things are perfect the Society is there because the Society makes everything perfect. If the Society finds out that Cassia ran away from them she would be in big trouble. Cassia still continues to look for Ky even though she is in danger of being caught. She keeps her eyes on her goal to see him.

It is really hard for Cassia to go on her journey to Ky, but she is slowly progressing to her goal. I think that if Cassia tries really hard she will find a way to get her goal. Cassia meets some good people and some bad people on her way. The quest that Cassia is trying to complete is a hard one because Ky is moving and it is harder for Cassia to catch up with him. Why should Cassia have to wait to see Ky? Ky also wants to see Cassia because he loves her.

Blog Post #14: Rules of Attraction Archetypes

            I have just finished reading the book Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles. I think that the hero in this book is Mr. Westford because he displayed courage and sacrificed himself to save Carlos. He was going to give up a lot of money just to help Carlos out of a gang. Mr. Westford also helped Kiara by telling her that Carlos was a nice guy that can be trusted. If not for this Kiara would have not gotten together with Carlos. Mr. Westford kept a secret that he had a bad childhood. At first everyone thought he was a perfect person because he always did the right things.

            The mentor of Carlos was Alex because Alex helped Carlos whenever he needed it. Carlos always went to Alex to get help with all kinds of problems. Carlos knew that Alex had experience of everything. He went to him to get guidance for love and trouble.  These brothers have been in very similar situations and Alex knows how to get through them. From Kiara to Devlin, Alex knew how to solve it. When Carlos was framed of having drugs Alex came to the rescue and knew that a gang that wants their hands on Carlos did it even though Carlos did not say so.

            The shadow of the book is Devlin because he causes tension throughout the book. He is head of a gang called the Devlin Family. He heard that Carlos is a new guy that just came from Mexico and had connections. Devlin wanted Carlos to join his gang because he needed to get drugs from Mexico. Also Carlos was needed to be a warrior for Devlin because Devlin was taking over all the territories of other gangs. Whenever Devlin is mentions something bad happens. Devlin forced Carlos to join his gang and Carlos had no other choice.

            The shapeshifter of the book is Tuck because he likes Carlos at first then doesn’t. He keeps switching sides and shows uncertainty. He can’t make up his mind if he likes Carlos or he doesn’t. Tuck is a person that thinks Carlos is a bad guy at first because the way he looked. Then Tuck soon sees that Carlos is a good guy because Kiara thinks he is a good guy, but then Carlos runs away from Kiara and Tuck thinks that he is a bad guy. Tuck wants to like Carlos, but Carlos is making him feel another way.

Blog Post #13: Rules of Attraction Protagonist

            There are two protagonists in the book, Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles, they are Carlos Fuentes and Kiara Westford. These two are the protagonist because they are the main characters. Carlos is like a walking ego because he is obnoxious and he knows that he is good looking. Kiara on the other hand is not very popular because she stutters when she talks and she plays sports, and loves a challenge. She is not your run of a mill girl. Later in the book Carlos finds that he starts liking Kiara. Carlos is not usually drawn to girls like Kiara.

            Kiara is the protagonist because she plays a role as a girl that is unpopular and has only one friend. She soon finds love for the bad boy that moves into her house because he couldn’t live with his brother. They are complete opposites though they still fall in love. Kiara does not really fall for a guy like Carlos and Carlos does not fall for a girl like Kiara most of the time, but when they are together they are happier. I think that opposite people can have a great relationship because once they get to know each other they might change their opinion.

            Carlos is an important character in the book because he is the one that all started the love story. Kiara met Carlos by his brother, Alex, suggesting for her to show Carlos around the school. If Kiara did not know Alex she would not have know Carlos. Carlos was the one that got kicked out of his brother’s school apartment and had to find a place to stay. Alex also suggested for Carlos to live in Kiara’s house. When Carlos entered the house he found that everything was so organized and he did not roll like that. He started thinking about Kiara because he thought that she was really interesting. I think that Carlos really liked Kiara from the first time he saw her because he always thought about her.

            In conclusion, the protagonists of Rules of Attraction fall in love. This book is a love story of two opposites. Carlos and Kiara at first thought that they would never be together. As the book progressed they each changed their opinion about each other. Carlos did not want a real relationship with Kiara because the last real relationship he had turned into a disaster. Kiara wanted a relationship she could not have. These two characters are the protagonist of the book because of their wanted love for each other.

Review of Josephine's Post

I just read Josephine's blog post called Blog Post #11: Hatchet. I have read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen also and I agree that Brian had no confidence in himself, but the actions he did showed that he had some determination in him. I also agree that this part of the book showed that life is an important thing real life. I think that it would be a bad thing if everyone wants to die.

 I like the way that Josephine’s post was written because there were examples and it was organized. I would like to improve on adding examples into my blog posts. For example, Josephine adds things like,"on page....". It is engaging because it is full of information that relates to the book. She puts her opinion into the blog post too.

I have read some of Josephine’s other posts and I think that this post stands out because it is a book that I have read before. Since I read it before I thought that it would be interesting. When I read her post I agreed with many of the things she wrote about. Also when I read the Hatchet I did not really think about what the themes really were.

I think that life is a really important part of human nature because without life there would not be any humans. If there was not life there would not be any trees, flowers, and mostly everything in the world. It would be really hard to live if you did not have life. Life is an important part of the world. If your life was taken away you would wish that it had not been taken.
